Meet Sharmeen Jatoi, Founder of BeautySquad

Sharmeen is a highly trained, Karachi based Makeup Artist. She received her training from the prestigious London College of Style.

Her love for art and makeup started at a very early age, and in 2017 her passion turned into a business venture, BeautySquad. BeautySquad’s vetted beauty professionals come to your home to provide hair, makeup and nail services.

Sharmeen describes makeup artistry as “painting on living canvas (face)” she explains, “No face is exactly like another. That is what makes it so beautiful and thrilling.”

Sharmeen continues to lead a talented team of beauty professionals, creating exquisite makeup looks on faces everywhere and helping her clients to feel confident and look their best.

Hi Sharmeen, how did you come up with the idea of “BeautySquad”?

I am a certified Make-up artist, but I wasn’t using my skills at work. I was a daughter, a wife, a doting mom, but this feeling of doing something of my own or to be precise doing something that interests me was always at the back of my mind.

Also, beauty industry is never affected by any season or is not slowed down by anything. People want to look and feel beautiful throughout the year. And the idea of offering home salon services was not very prominent in my vicinity. I sensed a potential business and decided to launch a business.

What was your motivation behind this venture?

How awesome is the feeling of making people look great and feel confident. Women love to get compliments, don’t they? I love it and that’s what inspired me to start this venture.

How supportive are your family and friends towards this venture of yours?

I am lucky to get the support of my family and friends in this endeavor. I spoke to a lot of people before actually going about this out-and-out. There was a women entrepreneur forum, HerFloor, where I received much advise and hope about starting up my own  business. I am grateful to everyone out there who have inspired me, helped me and guided me to realize my dreams.

How is your service different or better than other salons that are providing services at home?

The secret to excel is satisfaction of my clients. We have differentiated ourselves from our competitors by tailoring our services to meet clients’ needs while rendering our services flawlessly.

Why did you feel the need to have a website for your business?

With the increasing use of digital media in every industry, it’s crucial that one should know how to connect with customers. Creating a website and linking it with your social media pages is a cost effective way to engage with customers. It helps you in positioning your brand and gives you the needed  real estate to run re-marketing promotions.

We are catering only to female customers and we have 100% female staff. Moreover our staff have proper IDs, uniforms, and are picked and dropped by our managed vehicles so there is no chance of anything unpleasant happening.

What’s your process of vetting your beauticians?

Our selection process is simple. The beauticians should be experienced individuals with a cheerful personality. They should be well-spoken, properly groomed with a sense of punctuality and must take care of their hygiene.

Have you ever turned down a client?

Yes I have. We refuse when we feel there is a risk to our staff’s security and respect in any way.

Any challenges that you faced that proved to be an obstacle?

I am not a tech savvy person. Creating websites and all related work seemed a task to me, but with the help of HerFloor, this was sorted out and managed without any hassle. Thank you!

How do you define success?

Success is living your dreams. Making your choices and setting up an example for others to follow.

What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Taking decisions without the Boss’s approval 😉

How do you manage work life balance?

Being a woman you already portray a lot of roles. You are a multi-tasker by default. And I have the support of my family and team, this help me balance my work and home simultaneously.

Do you have a plan B if this doesn’t work out? Why or why not?           

I have put so much thought and effort in my work. I trust my team and above all I trust Allah. “Koshish karne walo ki kabhi haar nahi hoti!” I don’t think I need to have a plan B because I have complete confidence in plan A 🙂
